Growing with intention

To me, trees illustrate so poignantly the importance of growing with intention. Whether I find myself on level ground or a rocky hillside, taking the time to spread out my roots can be the difference between remaining upright after a storm or collapsing with the rush of water. I am easily distracted by the illusion that there might be a faster way to reach the sunlight, but the reality is, I will never get there without a healthy foundation.

 It is easy to fall into mindless patterns like this, worrying about not having “enough,” of what makes our life beautiful.  Often it is holding on too tight that keeps me from discovering I am already knee deep in loveliness.  The more I let go, the more I cast aside my fears that the good stuff will “run out,” the more clearly I can see that I am surrounded by beauty and joy.

Get out there and bloom!

Though this plant had barely even popped out of the dirt, it was already bold enough to show off a cheery orange blossom.  It wasn’t concerned at all about being too small or not being ready to support a flower...  The discovery of this tiny flower, helped me refocus and realize that the only way to truly prepare for the unknown is to open my heart.

Adopt the pace of nature

I am finally learning to weather these times with more grace by realizing that this is only one season of my life. Like my rose bushes in their dormant season, not only is it just not the time to create showy flowers, and it is actually not physically possible. So long as I’ve watered, fertilized and I continue to weed ruthlessly, sometimes there is nothing more you can do but wait patiently till the season changes.
